# Overview

Welcome to Juniper Creates!

Juniper puts **world class product capabilities** in the hands of creators and communities. Our **online platform** gives you the tools and connections to create beautiful products and launch your own store.

This **official guide** will help you navigate the platform, understand the product development process, and share products with your community!

## Custom Products

All of our products are completely custom — you have the **creative control** to shape them into a meaningful expression of your ideas and brand. Your customers will love them because of their premium quality, and also because they have a strong connection to them.

Juniper has designed and produced **hundreds of premium products** and successful campaigns for creators and organizations around the world! We have an experienced team of artists, product experts, and customer success talent to empower your product creation and support your store's operations.

## How It Works

The product development journey process should take about **2 – 3 months**, from when you first submit your product details until you can approve a physical sample for launch.

<table data-card-size="large" data-view="cards"><thead><tr><th></th><th></th><th data-hidden></th><th data-hidden data-card-target data-type="content-ref"></th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td><a href="/how-it-works/products"><strong>Products</strong></a></td><td>Submit your product details to get the journey started.</td><td></td><td><a href="/how-it-works/products">Products</a></td></tr><tr><td><a href="/how-it-works/design"><strong>Design</strong></a></td><td>Work with a designer to submit a manufacturing drawing for sampling.</td><td></td><td><a href="/how-it-works/design">Design</a></td></tr><tr><td><a href="/how-it-works/sampling"><strong>Sampling</strong></a></td><td>Review the physical sample to make sure you're happy with launching it.</td><td></td><td><a href="/how-it-works/sampling">Sampling</a></td></tr><tr><td><a href="/how-it-works/launch"><strong>Launch</strong></a></td><td>Get ready to share your products with the world!</td><td></td><td><a href="/how-it-works/launch">Launch</a></td></tr><tr><td><a href="/how-it-works/marketing"><strong>Marketing</strong></a></td><td>Promote your products authentically and effectively.</td><td></td><td><a href="/how-it-works/marketing">Marketing</a></td></tr><tr><td><a href="/how-it-works/next-steps"><strong>Next Steps</strong></a></td><td>Evaluate the launch for takeaways and apply them to your future products.</td><td></td><td><a href="/how-it-works/next-steps">Next Steps</a></td></tr></tbody></table>

# Products

Submit your product details to get the journey started.

Products are the **basic building blocks** within the Juniper platform. You can launch one product at a time or multiple products at once, but each one is developed as its own unit in the platform.

Each product must **belong to a store**. A store represents your brand, your team, your ecommerce website. You can add your team members as additional collaborators to a store, and any logos that should apply to the products in that store.

<table data-card-size="large" data-view="cards"><thead><tr><th></th><th></th><th data-hidden></th><th data-hidden data-card-target data-type="content-ref"></th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td><a href="/how-it-works/products/stores"><strong>Stores</strong></a></td><td>You can add multiple stores, and add collaborators so team members can access your products and conversations.</td><td></td><td><a href="/how-it-works/products/stores">Stores</a></td></tr></tbody></table>

## Start a New Product

Click the **`New Product`** button to add a new product. Give it a name and select the category, product, options, and add-ons you want to move forward with.

{% hint style="success" %}
If you are a **new user**, you already started this process when you signed up. When you log in, you'll be able to continue with this product.
{% endhint %}

Each product has an associated **unit cost and MOQ** (minimum order quantity).

* **Unit Cost** – Juniper does not take a profit split. Once you start selling, you keep 100% of the difference between the unit cost and your retail price.
* **MOQ** – 300 units for most products, 500 units for some specialty products. These minimum order quantities are firm.

## Add Product Details

Add details to the product like what inspired you, specific notes about how you want it to look or feel, and any relevant media. All of this will be **passed on to our team** once you submit.

If you already have **completed designs**, please upload full resolution art and vector files where applicable. This will help expedite the process and allow you to start sampling earlier.

In this case, you will be connected with a designer that will translate your vision into a manufacturing drawing to be sampled.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Every product** must go through a designer trained with Juniper who can create a manufacturing drawing that will be sampled smoothly.
{% endhint %}

## Select Launch Model

Select what launch model you want to release the product under — either **In Stock** or **Pre-Order**.

<table data-card-size="large" data-view="cards"><thead><tr><th></th><th></th><th data-hidden></th><th data-hidden data-card-target data-type="content-ref"></th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td><a href="/how-it-works/products/launch-models"><strong>Launch Models</strong></a></td><td>Learn more about the differences between In Stock and Pre-Order products to help you decide which way to go.</td><td></td><td><a href="/how-it-works/products/launch-models">Launch Models</a></td></tr></tbody></table>

{% hint style="info" %}
You can only develop one **Pre-Order** product at a time. You can develop as many **In Stock** products as you want.
{% endhint %}

## Submit Product Details

You must have a credit card attached to your account in order to submit products.

<table data-card-size="large" data-view="cards"><thead><tr><th></th><th></th><th data-hidden></th><th data-hidden data-card-target data-type="content-ref"></th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td><a href="/finance/billing"><strong>Billing</strong></a></td><td>When and how you are charged for product development and store operations.</td><td></td><td><a href="/finance/billing">Billing</a></td></tr></tbody></table>

After you submit your product details, a conversation will be created that you can access by clicking **`Messages`** in the main menu. You can use this conversation to provide any additional information to your Client Success Specialist and designer.

## Review Process

After submitting your product details, our team will take about **1 business day to review**. If there are any issues that we need you to address, we'll let you know through the conversation for that product. If the product is approved, we will go ahead and connect you with a designer!

In some cases, we may have to **cancel your product** for one or both of the reasons below.

* **Spam**\
  If your product details clearly indicate that you are sending us spam or are not actually interested in developing a product with us, we will cancel the product.
* **Feasibility**\
  We won't take on a product if we aren't confident that we can create what you envision through our current capabilities. We'll use the conversation to discuss how we can alter the product before deciding to cancel it.
* **Pre-Order Restriction**\
  If you've previously launched a pre-order product with us and cancelled it, we may require you to launch future products in stock.

{% hint style="info" %}
One a product is cancelled, its **conversation will become inactive**. You are always welcome to submit another product!
{% endhint %}

# Stores

Learn more about stores and how to manage collaborators.

A store represents your brand, your team, your ecommerce website. Every product created in the platform must belong to a store.

You can access your stores by clicking on **`Stores`** in the main menu.

## Add a New Store

Click the **`New Store`** button to add a new store. Give it a name and fill out the relevant information for that store. Add a description, logo, brand colours, and social media links.

{% hint style="info" %}
If you are a **new user**, you already started a new store when you signed up. When you log in, you'll be able to complete the remaining fields.
{% endhint %}

## Add Collaborators

Click the **`Manage Team`** button to add collaborators to the store. Add their name and email — if they already have an account, they will see the store when they log in.

If they don't already have an account, they will be invited to create an account.

# Launch Models

Learn more about the launch models to help you decide which way to go.

You can either launch your products with the **In Stock** model, or with the **Pre-Order** model. Each comes with advantages and disadvantages depending on what you are hoping to do with your campaign and with your store.

## **In Stock**

Purchase inventory before you launch. Manufacturing takes 7 – 9 weeks and can start **as soon as the sample is approved**.

Your products will **ship immediately** as soon as a customer places an order. You can make the product available during a campaign window with limited stock (up to you, recommended 2 or 3 weeks) or available indefinitely.

You can order the MOQ or a higher quantity if you wish to have more stock available for customers.

{% hint style="success" %}
The sample fee is waived for products launched with this model.
{% endhint %}

## Pre-Order

Launch after approving the sample without purchasing inventory.

The product will be **available to pre-order** during a campaign window (up to you, recommended 2 or 3 weeks). Customers will place pre-orders for the product knowing it won’t ship until a specified date in the future.

Manufacturing takes 7 – 9 weeks and can start **as soon as the campaign window is over**. Products will ship to customers after this. This means that customers who ordered at the start of a 3-week campaign will wait 10 – 12 weeks before their products ship.

{% hint style="info" %}
You can only launch 1 product at a time using this model.
{% endhint %}

# Design

Work with your designer to submit a manufacturing drawing for sampling.

Every submitted product has a conversation that you can access by clicking **`Messages`** in the main menu. This conversation includes your Client Success Specialist and designer. Use this conversation to work with your designer and move the process forward.

Ensure you have a **mobile phone number** added to your **`Account`** to get text alerts when you have new messages.

## Free Design Consultation

Juniper offers a **free, 30-minute design consultation** with a designer for each product. This is a chance for you to ask design questions, brainstorm ideas, and align with your designer on the vision for your product.

Your designer will reach out introduce themselves and **schedule this consultation** with you.

{% hint style="info" %}
To make the most of your time, **keep the meeting focused on design topics**. If you have questions about pricing, marketing, or anything else outside of the design scope, please direct those to your Client Success Specialist.
{% endhint %}

## Designer Pricing

Our design rate is set at **$50 per hour**. This rate takes includes the designer's own work and the cost of software and equipment, but also takes into account the fact that the designer works with our team behind the scenes throughout the process.

This can involve consulting with **product experts** to review drawings, provide input, and facilitate communication with manufacturing partners to ensure your product meets the highest standards.

<table data-card-size="large" data-view="cards"><thead><tr><th></th><th></th><th data-hidden></th><th data-hidden data-card-target data-type="content-ref"></th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td><a href="/finance/billing"><strong>Billing</strong></a></td><td>When and how you are charged for product development and store operations.</td><td></td><td><a href="/finance/billing">Billing</a></td></tr></tbody></table>

## Logo + Branding

If you haven't already provided your logo through the Store or Product setup in the platform, use the conversation to send a **vector or high resolution file of your logo**. The logo will be used in the following places related to your products and store:

* **Website**\
  Your logo will appear in the top navigation bar of your website, and again in the bottom footer.
* **Tags** + **Packaging**\
  Your logo will appear on washing tags for apparel and plush toys, and on packaging for accessories.

If you don't have a logo, or you'd like to **create a new logo** specifically for your store, let your designer know and they can work with you on a logo!

## Designer Assignment

Our team will review your submitted product details and assets, and assign a designer to **match your brand style** and get you started as soon as possible!

## Design Concept

Once you get connected with a designer, they will already have had a chance to review the **product details** you submitted. They will likely have questions for you to dig deeper into your vision, or you might have thought of other details in the meantime.

{% hint style="success" %}
If you already have a **completed design**, you and the designer will skip the concept stage and begin working on the manufacturing drawings right away.
{% endhint %}

The design process will **start with sketches** to help you align on the big ideas. This will include sketches of the product itself or any artwork involved in the products — for example, an illustration to be printed on a sweater.

During the design process, your designer will let you know what they are about to work on and quote you an **estimated amount of time** they will spend on it. This is so that you have an approximate idea of how much it will cost.

{% hint style="info" %}
You and the designer can **coordinate a virtual meeting** at any time if that helps with communication or the working process.
{% endhint %}

The key to making the design process go as smoothly as possible is to **be specific** about your direction. If you prefer to be open with the creative process and see if new ideas come up, just understand that it may take a bit of time to get to a place where you are happy.

We encourage you to make sure you and the designer are **on the same page**, so that you are both confident in the work being done!

## Manufacturing Drawing

Manufacturing drawings are like **blueprints for a product**. They tell the factory everything needed for a product to be manufactured. The manufacturing drawing is a crucial step of the process for the following reasons:

1. **Sampling Cost**\
   Our designers are well-trained in producing a manufacturing drawing that factories can understand clearly. This makes sure that we will get it right on the first sample and avoid additional sample fees. As long as the submitted manufacturing drawing is good, then you won’t have to pay for any additional samples.
2. **Quality**\
   Our designers understand the artwork requirements for different applications. They will ensure that your product is produced at the highest quality, and that your customers will intuitively know the quality of your product.
3. **Details**\
   Our designers have a holistic understanding of the manufacturing process. They’ll specify all the necessary details in the manufacturing drawing so that we can communicate your vision all at once without time-consuming back and forth across time zones.

{% hint style="success" %}
If you have **your own design team**, we can provide templates for some products that you can complete them on your end. Your Juniper designer will review it and make any edits necessary for manufacturing.
{% endhint %}

Once you are confident that the manufacturing drawing captures your vision for the product, let your designer know that you would like to **submit it for sampling**!

{% hint style="warning" %}
Don't submit a manufacturing drawing until you are **completely satisfied** with it. Once we submit it for sampling, you cannot change the manufacturing drawing without having to pay for an additional sample.
{% endhint %}

## Packaging

**Custom packaging** is optional because there are default versions for all of the packaging and tags. Your designer might ask if you want to customize any of it, or you can let them know too!

## Website Banner

Designing a custom website banner is **optional**. Let your designer know if you are interested in having them design something that fits with the product you worked on together.

We can also use existing banner artwork from your YouTube channel, or you can send over a website banner formatted to our [**Banner Template**](https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1_XGRSqEgkz8AE-pZ9nMFxOlgWXxtttxm?usp=sharing) (PSD). The dimensions are **4000 x 650 px**, but it will be cropped to a width of 2650 px on mobile.

The best time to work on this is typically after submitting the manufacturing drawing for sampling, while you are **waiting for the sample** to be completed. You can also work on this after approving the sample photos while waiting for the sample to be shipped to you.

# Sampling

Review the physical sample to make sure you're happy with launching it.

The physical sample represents how your **final products** will look in the hands of your customers.&#x20;

Your designer will help you review photos of the samples and communicate with our product team about any changes. Then, we'll ship the sample to you for final approval.

## Sample Pricing

The cost to create a sample is **$250** for most products. Some accessories have a smaller sample fee — you can see the sample fee by clicking **`More Info`** when selecting the product.

This covers the costs of the materials and labour of the sample creation itself, but also the work involved with sourcing the materials and performing quality control. It also includes the cost of professional photography for the sample, and shipping the sample to you for final approval.

<table data-card-size="large" data-view="cards"><thead><tr><th></th><th></th><th data-hidden></th><th data-hidden data-card-target data-type="content-ref"></th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td><a href="/finance/billing"><strong>Billing</strong></a></td><td>When and how you are charged for product development and store operations.</td><td></td><td><a href="/finance/billing">Billing</a></td></tr></tbody></table>

## Sample Creation + Approval

It takes **2 – 3 weeks** to produce a sample after submitting the manufacturing drawing.

Our manufacturing partner will **send over photos** as soon as the sample is complete. Your designer will share these with you through the platform. Note that these photos will not be professional quality, but will be used to confirm that the product matches the manufacturing drawing.

If you are happy with how the sample looks, we will send it to our office for professional photography and then **ship the sample to you** for final approval.

There will be natural **waiting periods in the process** while we create the sample, and also while we ship the completed sample to you. This is a great time to think about marketing and how you want to present your product to your community.

<table data-card-size="large" data-view="cards"><thead><tr><th></th><th></th><th data-hidden></th><th data-hidden data-card-target data-type="content-ref"></th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td><a href="/how-it-works/design#website-banner"><strong>Website Banner</strong></a></td><td>What would you like to show on the banner of your store? Gather existing artwork for us to upload, or work with your designer on new illustrations.</td><td></td><td><a href="/how-it-works/design#website-banner">Design</a></td></tr><tr><td><a href="/how-it-works/marketing"><strong>Marketing Planning</strong></a></td><td>How would you like to market this product? Think about extra content you want to make with yourself and the product, and any graphics you want to post after launching.</td><td></td><td><a href="/how-it-works/marketing">Marketing</a></td></tr></tbody></table>

## Sample Errors + Changes

Your designer will be responsible for **communicating with our product team** to ensure your product is top quality and accurate to the manufacturing drawing.

If a sample needs to be remade because it doesn't match manufacturing drawing, **Juniper will cover the cost** of creating an additional sample. Chat with your designer about the discrepancies so that they can thoroughly communicate the necessary changes to our product team.

If you would like to **change the design** and make a new sample after one is already made, there will be an additional sample fee. To avoid this, make sure you review the manufacturing drawing thoroughly before submitting it for sampling.

{% hint style="info" %}
Sample revisions can take **1 – 2 weeks**.
{% endhint %}

# Launch

Get ready to share your products with the world!

## Inventory Costs

The costs associated with design and sampling of a product will be charged **after you approve the sample** for that product. Your Client Success Specialist will provide you with an invoice for you to approve.

For **In Stock** products, the cost of your inventory will be included in the same invoice as design and sample costs. For **Pre-Order** products, the cost of the inventory will be subtracted from your revenue payout after the campaign.

<table data-card-size="large" data-view="cards"><thead><tr><th></th><th></th><th data-hidden></th><th data-hidden data-card-target data-type="content-ref"></th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td><a href="/how-it-works/products/launch-models"><strong>Launch Models</strong></a></td><td>Learn more about the differences between In Stock and Pre-Order products.</td><td></td><td><a href="/how-it-works/products/launch-models">Launch Models</a></td></tr><tr><td><a href="/finance/billing"><strong>Billing</strong></a></td><td>Understand the costs and billing schedule involved with product development.</td><td></td><td><a href="/finance/billing">Billing</a></td></tr></tbody></table>

## Apparel Sizing

For hoodies, crewnecks, t-shirts, and joggers / sweatpants, your inventory will include items of **different sizes**.

We suggest different distributions of these sizes **based on your audience demographic**. Take a look at the page below to see the breakdown of these distributions. We'll always check with you to see what distribution you want to use, or if you want to edit the percentages.

{% hint style="info" %}
We can support **up to 6 sizes** per apparel product.

## **Retail Pricing + Profit**

Set the retail price for your product based on your desired profit and affordability for your customers. All orders are charged a flat rate shipping fee, but you can choose to absorb some of the shipping fee into the retail price through a **shipping subsidy**.

Customer orders may be charged sales tax or import tax based on their location. Read more at the page below!

By no means is this an exhaustive guide. It's important to consider your **unique voice and audience** to ensure that you’re promoting your products in an authentic way.

## Marketing Timeline

It's easiest to think of the marketing timeline in **3 simple stages** — before the launch, launch day, and after the launch.&#x20;

Click into the pages for each of these stages for detailed schedules, messaging direction, and copy templates you can reference.

## Audience Demographics

### YouTube Kids

If your channel is a part of the YouTube Kids Program, you **cannot directly promote your products** in YouTube content. Wear your apparel, interact with your products organically, but do not directly promote it in your videos.

Include links to your store in the **description of all videos**, and leverage your other channels (website, social media) to highlight your products and launch. Video descriptions won't be visible in the YouTube Kids app, but they will be visible on internet browsers.

### Child Demographic

If your target audience is in a child aged demographic (**about 4 – 16 years**), make sure your products are present throughout your videos during the campaign.

Include short snippets of the products near the beginning of your videos. Focus less on storytelling and more on **interacting with the products**. You want to get viewers to develop a more intimate connection with your products — if you're launching a plush toy, give it a personality and have it “speak” if it makes sense.

Showcase the **functionality of the products**. A plush toy may be something to cuddle when going to bed, or a buddy to take to school. Apparel might be something they can show off to their friends, or wear as pajamas.

### Adult Demographic

If your target audience is in an **adult demographic,** don't sell the products like an ad. People can tell when something is forced, and they don’t want to be sold to. They want to feel a part of something, and to support something they can relate to and enjoy.

**Be authentic** when promoting your products. Communicate with your audience the same way you normally would. Focus on the values and themes at the core of your content, the things that people are drawn to in the first place. If you usually make self-deprecating jokes, make jokes about the products!

## Holidays

The holidays are an important time for customers. Make sure you're properly communicating and managing **customer expectations** when promoting your products, so your fans know what they are getting into before they make a purchase.

Read more about promoting your products ahead of the holidays at the page below, along with how **Juniper supports you** in this communication.

# Before the Launch

Build interest and excitement for the products you are launching.

Leading up to the launch, ensure that your viewers have a clear understanding of the following:

* **When** your product will be available.
* **What** will be available.
* **How you feel** about the product — favourite feature, product quality, apparel fit, etc.

## Strategy

Use your direct channels (YouTube, Twitch, Instagram, TikTok, Discord etc.) to communicate the details of your launch starting 10 – 14 days in advance of your launch date. Focus on frequency and engagement. Your messaging frequency will determine how well your viewers retain key information like the launch date/time and product details. Creating engaging content will help connect the viewer to you and your product(s), increasing their likelihood to purchase.

Throughout your pre-launch promotion ensure you’re doing the following:

* Post across the channels you typically engage with your fans on
* Post with some frequency, targeting 2 – 3 posts before launch on each channel, teasing your product and adding additional detail with each post.
* Tell a story about how the merch came to life or why it’s important to you or exciting for you

{% hint style="info" %}
Promotion frequency should depend on your **typical posting schedule**. If your posting schedule is infrequent, adjust the level of detail included in each post and consider starting your pre-promotion 1 – 2 weeks earlier.
{% endhint %}

# Launch Day

Drive customers to your store to make a purchase.

At the time of launch, communicate the following key information to your viewers:

* Where they can find your product, and how long it will be available for.

* The benefits of your product — quality, design elements, use cases etc.
* Ensure to link the store in all posts across your channels.

## Strategy

Authentically show your product(s) and speak to its benefits. Ensure all communication directs the customer to your store so that they can easily make a purchase and view the product. Post across your social channels with the following:

* Clear product images
* Images/video with you (the creator) and the product
* Articulate campaign details — where & for how long product is available
* Ensure you clearly show the product in the first 3 seconds of any video content

{% hint style="info" %}

Convince fans who are on the fence to make a purchase.

* Reiterating key product details and feature&#x73;**.**
* Keeping your product top of mind, by integrating it into your videos where possible.
* Emphasizing the limited nature of your product and final sale date (if applicable).

* **Interact with your fans**\
  Respond to questions/comments, address concerns and make them feel a part of your merch journey. Remember, you’re making the merch for them!

# Holidays

Promoting products ahead of the holiday season.

The holidays are an important time for customers. Many people will be **purchasing gifts for loved ones**. This means it's extra important to communicate to customers clearly, especially if they are about to order a product that won't physically arrive by December 25.

## Holiday Cards

<figure><img src="https://2120480607-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FC9D6UuMmqUSv0HzSOa5j%2Fuploads%2Fh8lKueeJGHWGpRQsR9T1%2FHoliday%20Cards%20-%20Outside.jpg?alt=media&amp;token=7b1342db-9de6-4e59-9124-6e0973706e7f" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Starting in **mid-November**, we create a holiday card for every product and add a download link to the product description on your store website.

* Customers can **download the PDF** and print it out at home. The PDF contains instructions for how to do this. [Click here to download an example](https://drive.google.com/file/d/1I5rXVqMKfdy4sF39S6gwWaKFCNQOipl5/view?usp=share_link).
* The card serves helps the gift feel more special for the holiday season, and adds a bit of **personalization** since the card will have your name on it.
* The card can be used as a companion for the gift itself, or it can be given by itself for products that **won't arrive by December 25**.

{% hint style="info" %}
We'll reach out through the platform to give you a heads up that this is happening! If you **don't want this on your store** for whatever reason, we can take it down for you.
{% endhint %}

<figure><img src="https://2120480607-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FC9D6UuMmqUSv0HzSOa5j%2Fuploads%2FxIuKl3ZgP9JYK6JRgE1s%2FHoliday%20Cards%20-%20Inside.jpg?alt=media&amp;token=34176031-45b8-4d61-8e6b-05fc63435c25" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

## Pre-Order Products

Most products that are launching on pre-order **after mid-September** will not be delivered by December 25. This takes into account a typical 3-week campaign window, 7 – 9 weeks to manufacture inventory, and allowing 2 weeks to deliver the product by December 18, leaving a bit of buffer room considering local fulfillment companies are busy during that season.

It's also important to **set expectations** when promoting your products and store during this time. Customers can be upset if they order something they intend to give as a gift but don't receive it in time.

* Avoid using phrases like "**the perfect Christmas gift**" or otherwise suggesting that your products will arrive by December 25.
* Mention the **holiday cards** that customers can download from the product description, so they know they can give this card in place of the physical product if they wish.
* The website product page will clearly indicate that the product is on pre-order and list the **expected shipping time**, so most customers should be aware of this when they are adding it to their cart.

## In Stock Products

After **December 4**, there is a chance that new orders of in stock products will not arrive by December 25. This takes into account 2 weeks to deliver the product by December 18, leaving a bit of buffer room considering local fulfillment companies are busy during that season.

If you are **promoting in stock products** at this time, please consider the suggestions above that apply to pre-order products launching after mid-September.

* In addition to the measures described above, we will add a note to the website product page at this time to tell customers that the product **will not arrive by December 25**.

# Next Steps

Evaluate the launch for takeaways and apply them to your future products.

## **Determining Success**

What determines success is **up to you**! Maybe you're interested in maximizing your revenue or selling the MOQ, or maybe the first moment of seeing a fan share a photo of themselves with your product is what makes it all worth it for you. In any case, you should be proud of creating something that represents you and putting it out into the world!

You can keep up with your sales performance through the analytics dashboard by clicking on **`Analytics`** in the main menu.

<table data-card-size="large" data-view="cards"><thead><tr><th></th><th></th><th data-hidden></th><th data-hidden data-card-target data-type="content-ref"></th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td><a href="/how-it-works/launch/analytics"><strong>Analytics</strong></a></td><td>See your sales performance data and keep track of your inventory.</td><td></td><td><a href="/how-it-works/launch/analytics">Analytics</a></td></tr></tbody></table>

## Pre-Order Launch Risks

If, at the end of the campaign window, the number of units that customers pre-ordered is **less than the MOQ** for the product, you have 2 options.

1. **Purchase Inventory**\
   Purchase the MOQ for the product and fulfill the pre-orders. You can keep selling through your store, or we can ship the remaining inventory to you. This is recommended if the number of pre-orders is close to the reaching the MOQ.
2. **Cancel Product**\
   We will send refunds and emails to all affected customers apologizing and letting them know that the product was cancelled. This is recommended if the number of pre-orders is far below the MOQ.

## Monthly Store Fee

We run your store for **free for the first 2 months** (60 days) after your inventory is manufactured. After 60 days, a monthly fee is charged at the end of each calendar month based on the amount of inventory you have. The monthly fee is **$0.20 per unit** and helps cover the following costs associated with the store.

* **Warehousing + Fulfillment**\
  Staff and infrastructure.
* **Technical Upkeep**\
  Domain, website hosting, analytics, and sales integrations.
* **Store Operations**\
  24-hour customer support, site maintenance.

The **store fee is prorated** based on the amount of inventory you have each day. If you sell all your inventory halfway through the month, you will only be charged for half of that month. If you don't have any inventory with us in a given month, you will not be charged a store fee!

**Note:** If you're placing a new order for a previous product, the first 60 days will be free at the completion of the manufacturing process.

## Payouts

We send out payments **by the 15th of the month** through a wire transfer or PayPal. You will receive a statement via email in the first week of the month, and the payment will take 3 – 7 business days to arrive after receiving the statement.

Read the page below for more information on when and how you get paid from your store.

<table data-card-size="large" data-view="cards"><thead><tr><th></th><th></th><th data-hidden></th><th data-hidden data-card-target data-type="content-ref"></th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td><a href="/finance/payouts"><strong>Payouts</strong></a></td><td>Learn more about when and how you get paid from your store.</td><td></td><td><a href="/finance/payouts">Payouts</a></td></tr></tbody></table>

## Product Issues

The process for defective products depends on whether Juniper runs your store or you run your own store.

* **Juniper Runs Your Store**\
  Customers can contact Juniper's 24 / 7 customer service team by clicking **`Contact`** in the footer of your website. They will be able to provide their order number and describe their issue.
* **You Run Your Store**\
  Please submit a request to the Juniper team with the number of defective products that need to be replaced.

## Creating More Products

You can start a new product at any time through **`Products`** in the main menu. The process will be the same as creating your first product.

<table data-card-size="large" data-view="cards"><thead><tr><th></th><th></th><th data-hidden></th><th data-hidden data-card-target data-type="content-ref"></th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td><a href="/how-it-works/products"><strong>Products</strong></a></td><td>Submit product details to get the journey started.</td><td></td><td><a href="/how-it-works/products">Products</a></td></tr></tbody></table>

## Juniper Partnerships

If your store is projected to sell **$250K USD or greater** in one year, we may reach out to gauge your interest in working together under Juniper Partnerships.

Juniper Partnerships is based on a **royalty model** where Juniper covers the cost of design, sampling, and inventory. We also are more actively involved in planning your products and ecommerce strategy, and provide marketing support with a more customized website.

# Billing

When and how you are charged for product development and store operations.

## Adding a Credit Card

Click **`Billing`** in the main menu to add your billing address and credit card info.

Each store must have a credit card attached in order to submit details for a new product. However, there is **no immediate charge** in order to submit product details.

{% hint style="info" %}
Credit card information is **required to submit products**, but no charges are applied until you approve your sample.
{% endhint %}

## Billing Breakdown + Schedule

## Cancelling a Product&#x20;

If you wish to cancel your product **during the development process**, let your Client Success Specialist know in the conversation for that product.

You will only be charged the costs incurred **up to that point**. Your Client Success Specialist will provide you with an invoice for you to approve.

## Other Payment Methods

We also accept **wire transfer** as a method of payment. Just let your Client Success Specialist know, and they will coordinate this with you when it is time for a payment.

# Retail Pricing

Understand how much customers pay and how that affects your profit.

## **Retail Pricing + Profit**

Every product has a recommended retail price. We try to recommend a price that gives you a healthy margin above the unit cost while still keeping products **affordable for customers**.

That being said, you are free to **set the retail price how you wish**. Perhaps you want to set a lower price based on your knowledge of your audience demographic, or to set a higher price to emphasize the premium quality.

The **unit cost stays the same** for you regardless of how you set your retail price. Juniper does not take a profit split, which means you can increase the price of the product and make more money!

{% hint style="info" %}
Profit for a given product can be calculated as:\
**Unit Profit** = **Retail Price** – **Unit Cost**\
**Total Profit** = **Units Profit** × **Units Sold**
{% endhint %}

If you set a retail price of $30 for a product with a unit cost of $12, how much total profit would you generate from the MOQ of 300 units?

**Unit Profit** = **$30** – **$12** = **$18**\
**Total Profit** = **$18** × **300 units** = **$5,400** &#x20;

## Flat Rate Shipping

Each product has a standard shipping fee **based on its weight** which will be charged to the customer when they check out. Add this shipping fee to your retail price to know how much a customer will pay in total for that product.

{% hint style="info" %}
The total amount that a customer pays for a product can be calculated as:\
**Customer Total** = **Retail Price** + **Shipping Cost**
{% endhint %}

We offer **flat rate global shipping**, meaning that you can ship products around the world without pricing out customers who live far from you. This also means that we can't offer shipping discounts on orders with multiple products.

* Our packages are shipped by air, so the cost is **based on weight**.
* Products are often fulfilled **at different times**, especially if an order includes pre-order products). We ship out each product as soon as it's ready.
* Different products are often stored **at different warehouses**, which means they are not always shipped out together.

## Shipping Subsidy

If you want to order to **reduce the shipping cost** for the customer, you can include a shipping subsidy which transfers some of the shipping cost to the retail cost or reduces your profit per unit.

{% hint style="info" %}
The total amount that a customer pays with a shipping subsidy can be calculated as:\
**Customer Total** = **Retail Price** + **Shipping Cost** – **Shipping Subsidy**

Profit for a product with a shipping subsidy can be calculated as:\
**Unit Profit** = **Retail Price** – **Unit Cost** – **Shipping Subsidy**
{% endhint %}

It's up to you how much you of a shipping subsidy you want to include, and if you want to **adjust the retail price** accordingly.

{% tabs %}
{% tab title="No Subsidy" %}
**Retail Price** = **$30**\
**Unit Cost** = **$12**\
**Shipping Cost** = **$8**\
**Shipping Subsidy** = **0**

**Customer Total** = **$30** + **$8** – **0** = **$38**\
**Unit Profit** = **$30** – **$12** = **$18**

In this example, the customer sees the price of shipping as $8.
{% endtab %}

{% tab title="Subsidy, Same Retail " %}
**Retail Price** = **$30**\
**Unit Cost** = **$12**\
**Shipping Cost** = **$8**\
**Shipping Subsidy** = **$5**

**Customer Total** = **$30** + **$8** – **$5** = **$33**\
**Unit Profit** = **$30** – **$12** – **$5** = **$13**

In this example, the customer sees the price of shipping as $3.
{% endtab %}

{% tab title="Subsidy, Increased Retail" %}
**Retail Price** = **$35**\
**Unit Cost** = **$12**\
**Shipping Cost** = **$8**\
**Shipping Subsidy** = **$5**

**Customer Total** = **$35** + **$8** – **$5** = **$38**\
**Unit Profit** = **$35** – **$12** – **$5** = **$18**

In this example, the customer sees the price of shipping as $3.
{% endtab %}
{% endtabs %}

You can also offer **free shipping** to customers by including a shipping subsidy equal to the cost of shipping.

## Sales Taxes

All orders from the **United States**, **United Kingdom**, **European Union**, and **Canada** will have an added regional sales tax. This tax is applied at checkout similar to other e-commerce websites.

## Import Tax / Customs

Import taxes can vary by the geographic region where the customer is based.

* In the **United Kingdom** and **European Union**, VAT (value-added tax) replaces all import taxes. VAT is a sales tax that will be applied at checkout, and customers won't pay extra import taxes.
* The **United States** does not charge import tax for shipments valued under $800. You can [read more here](https://www.trade.gov/de-minimis-value).
* **Canada** charges import tax for shipments valued over $20. You can [read more here](https://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/publications/cn-ad/cn20-18-eng.html).
* Other countries do not have a specific threshold value for import tax, but may have a chance of shipments getting stopped at the border before an import tax is paid. Some countries like **Brazil** have a high chance of shipments being stopped at the border. Customers from these countries should already be aware of how their country handles international shipments.

# Payouts

When and how you get paid from your store.

## Payout Timelines

We send out payments on a monthly cadence. You will **receive a statement via email**, and the payout will be deposited shortly after. You should receive both by the 15th of the month.

* Your email statement will include your **sales for the month** as well as your payout amount.
* We will also attach a **spreadsheet breakdown** containing the details of every order. This includes revenue, refunds, unit costs, applicable shipping subsidies, and your profit.

We don't officially process sales until **1 month after the order**. This is so that we capture any refunds that might happen during that time period.

* This means that each statement and payout will correspond with sales for the **month that ended 1 month prior**. See the table below for examples.

| Sales Month | Payout      |
| ----------- | ----------- |
| January     | By March 15 |
| February    | By April 15 |
| March       | By May 15   |

## Inventory Costs

Any outstanding inventory costs will be paid off prior to receiving a payout. This typically **only applies** to pre-order products.

* **Pre-Order**\
  The cost of inventory will be deducted from your sales. If you launch your products late in the month, your first statement might not include a payout as it only covers a short period of sales.
* **In Stock**\
  You would have already purchased your inventory prior to launch, so you won't have any outstanding inventory costs after launching.

<table data-card-size="large" data-view="cards"><thead><tr><th></th><th></th><th data-hidden></th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td><a href="/how-it-works/products/launch-models"><strong>Launch Models</strong></a></td><td>Learn more about the differences between In Stock and Pre-Order products to help you decide which way to go.</td><td></td></tr></tbody></table>

## Minimum Payout Amount

We only send a payout if the amount is **$50 or more**. If your payout would be less than $50, we will carry over the amount into the following period and send a payout once the amount is $50 or more.

{% hint style="success" %}
We will send you an email statement and spreadsheet breakdown **every month**, even if there will not be a payout that month.
{% endhint %}
